Free Things to Do
Everybody loves the cost of free.
Who doesn’t love free? All of us in Door County love it, too — because here, like nowhere else, you can enjoy all sorts of activities at no charge that you and your family are sure to love. From parks to picnic grounds, beaches to backwoods, festivals to holiday events, there’s always an opportunity to enjoy spending time… without really spending!
Below are some activities and ideas that don’t cost a dime.
Door County Beaches and County Parks
Beaches and parks have always been a source of inexpensive fun. With 300 miles of shoreline, we’ve got quite the source. Stop at Anclam Park in Baileys Harbor on a windy day to watch the kite boarders or Ellison Bay Bluff Park to gaze at stunning views from the deck.
Climb the 184 steps to the top of the wooden Lookout Tower, and see Door County from above the treetops. If the climb doesn’t take your breath away, the view will.
Bring your camera. The lighthouse and breakwater pier are some of the most photographed subjects in the county.
Hike the Ahnapee Trail or one of our Nature Preserves. Visit the Garden Door Community Garden or take the Sturgeon Bay Historic Walking Tour. Enjoy the playground and animals at Schopf’s Hilltop Dairy.
If you have a GPS, you have an adventurous game in hand. Many caches are hidden throughout Door County and contain interesting prizes. Go online, type in your location and the adventure begins.
