Summary

On the banks of Lake Michigan, under a magnificent maple tree, people of all ages gather to enjoy the works of William Shakespeare and other classic and classically inspired playwrights. Join us as some of the finest performing artists across the region share these timeless stories with you. This year, Door Shakespeare presents William Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night,” and Charles Dickens’ “Great Expectations,” adapted for the stage by Gale Childs Daly. Running July 2 through August 16, shows are 7:30 on Monday through Friday, and 5:00 on Saturday. A number of Door Shakespeare performances feature pre-show lectures and family activities, including “Will In The Woods” and “Shake It Up Saturday”, as well as our very popular “Wine Nights.” Door Shakespeare’s youth theater program, Camp Will, offers three one-week sessions led by members of the Acting Company. Over the course of five days, students are introduced to the world, stories and characters of William Shakespeare through a combination of theater games, exercises, activities, and word play. Campers conclude their week at Camp Will by sharing their scene work on the Door Shakespeare stage and then watching their instructors perform on the same stage in a professional production. When the stars are out and you witness the final bow, we hope that you will feel as though you have come to know the world around you a little better. Such is the magic of live theater when performed in an outdoor setting so enchanting that many in attendance return year after year since Door Shakespeare’s inception in 1995.
