More Information
Guests are greeted with foodie treats compliments of our Door County Kraut Company commercial kitchen. We are known not only for our sauerkraut, but also our scratch bakery made from old family recipes and creative items we’ve developed over the years. Many of our return guests have favorite items they request, and special dietary issues can be addressed.
The cabin is situated on our original family farmstead. It features the hand hewn cedar log construction throughout the interior, with exposed log and beam construction. Open log, beam and rafter construction is featured in the two bedrooms lending coziness unique to our historic family home. A queen futon is located in the living room. Relax after dinner on the front porch rockers enjoying the serenity, or catching up on a good book.
Grandma’s pride and joy, the antique 1800’s cook stove generations of the Millers learned to master, still stands as a working part of the home. The cook-top has been converted to electric during its recent restoration. The kitchen’s cook stove is complimented with an in-wall convection/conventional wall oven, microwave, and full sized refrigerator with ice-maker.
Many original features of the log home were retained during the restoration so the warmth and coziness of the home remains. We are sure our Grandparents would have appreciated the modern amenities added to the home that are things many of us take for granted.
Carl’s at the Farm opened July 2015. It is Gust’s sons’ family home built of native timber in the mid-1950’s by Charles Tishler builders. The Henson Historic Haus opened in July 2018.
Carl’s has a bath and a half, and the Henson Haus has 2 bathrooms, and have full kitchens, gas fireplace and similar amenities to Gustave’s cabin, including a full front porch. All locations feature complimentary Satellite TV and WiFi.
The peace and quiet here allow you to tune into the sounds of nature. Those of you interested in the wild life around you can enjoy over 30 species of birds that call our woodlands and meadows home in addition to deer and other furry creatures. Old logging trails used for hiking, meander through the sugar maple woods, and adjoin rolling-meadows filled with wildflowers. Early risers can catch spectacular sunrises, as well as romantic sunsets without leaving home. The lush green of our estates’ forests adjoining our homes give way to spectacular fall colors you won’t want to miss. Be sure to bring your camera to preserve your special moments.
Should you wish to entertain outdoors, a picnic area including grill, table with benches, and fire pit are in your back yard. A hike or cross country ski through our wooded trails,in near-by public parks and nature preserves lends itself to the serenity of the land we call home. Snuggle next to the fireplace after a day of recreating and relaxation takes on new meaning.
We are conveniently located near the northern Door towns of Baileys Harbor, Sister Bay, Ephraim and Fish Creek. The waters of Lake Michigan and Green Bay’s public beaches, fishing and marina facilities are only 10 minutes at furthest. Our cabin is in close proximity to Peninsula State Park, golf courses, shopping public access natural areas, and town and county parks. Lighthouses abound in the northern Door area near the cabin. We are located on the State of Wisconsin snowmobile trail system, and only ¼ mile from the county’s bicycle trail system. For those of you who enjoy water activities, we have ample parking for boat, kayak, and horse trailers on property. Hunting is allowed by permission -inquire for details. Pets are allowed on approval.
Guest need worry only about packing clothes, shampoo, groceries and charcoal. We take care of the rest...............
