Door County Collects 1,055 Winter Items for “Big Bundle Up” Campaign
The 8th annual “Big Bundle Up” campaign concluded earlier this month. The Door County tourism industry and local community worked together to collect 1,055 winter clothing items. The campaign was led by the Wisconsin Department of Tourism and organized locally by the Door County Visitor Bureau.
The Door County Visitor Bureau Welcome Center along with community visitor centers in Baileys Harbor, Carlsville, Door County North, Egg Harbor, Fish Creek, Jacksonport, Sister Bay and Sturgeon Bay all volunteered to participate in the campaign.
Community members were encouraged to drop off new or gently used cold weather clothing items from November 16, 2017 to January 2, 2018 at any of the drop off sites. Collected items were donated to local organizations across the county.
The Wisconsin Department of Tourism reported 31,041 winter clothing items collected at Wisconsin Welcome Centers and tourist information centers around Wisconsin. Since 2011 the campaign has donated more than 133,441 items to Wisconsin residents in need.
Jen Rogers, Communications & PR Manager at the Door County Visitor Bureau, helped organize the collection for a second year. “I’m so happy to see the continued giving in this community,” said Rogers. “Locally, we have donated 5,310 items to Door County residents in need," she said.
The Door County Visitor Bureau is the official tourism marketing organization for Door County, whose mission is to generate incremental economic impact for the community by attracting visitors with strategies that ensure sustainable tourism.
