Most Door County businesses accept Door County gift certificates as payment for goods and services. The Door County Visitor Bureau (DCVB) reimburses 100% of the gift certificates value regardless of whether the business is a DCVB member. Since the certificate is redeemed at full face value, businesses will give change back to allow patrons to use the change for gratuities or other items.
The Door County gift certificate program started in 1999 by the DCVB in response to an overwhelming number of requests from visitors and residents who wanted a universal gift certificate that could be used county-wide. Since gift certificates can only be used in the county they support the Door County Buy Local campaign by keeping money local and helping foster economic development. The DCVB has sold more than $188,000 in gift certificates already this year.
The Door County Visitor Bureau is the official tourism marketing organization for Door County, whose mission is to generate incremental economic impact for the community by attracting visitors with strategies that ensure sustainable tourism.
