One of the Best Scenic Drives in Wisconsin

The Door County Coastal Byway (DCCB) is a 66-mile stretch of highway that offers drivers, sightseers, and experienced road bikers a condensed tour of the Door peninsula and many of its iconic natural features. From quaint and quiet lakeside villages and jagged limestone cliff sides to deep green forests and sparkling lake views, this drive packs some of the most-sought views, scenery, landscapes, and attractions of the entire region into a single, easy-to-navigate day trip.

An Official National Scenic Byway

In 2010, the DCCB was granted the distinction of being a Wisconsin Scenic Byway, the state’s third. And in February 2021, the DCCB was granted National Scenic Byway status by the US Department of Transportation.

This honor indicates the DCCB has “archeological, cultural, historic, natural, recreational and scenic” qualities worth recognizing and preserving and is a “gateway to adventure.” With all there is to see, do, taste, and experience in the towns and recreation spaces along the way, we couldn’t agree more.

The byway begins just north of Sturgeon Bay, traverses Highway 42 along the Green Bay shoreline, crests in the maritime towns of Northport and Gills Rock, heads back down south and connects with Highway 57 on the east side of the peninsula, and ends back in Sturgeon Bay where it started.
